Students are taught directly from the Vaganova syllabus, learning proper placement, musicality, and expression through movement. We offer technique classes in all levels and offer several ballet classes a day. Students have the opportunity to learn and perform timeless classics from some of the best choreographers and ballets.
Taught from the Vaganova syllabus, students will learn and strengthen their knowledge of the essentials of pointe technique. Students will work both at the barre and in center, and will have the opportunity to learn and perform classical repertoire.
Contemporary dance is a more recent development of movement that has emerged in the mid-20th century and continues to evolve today. It blends elements and qualities of Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop and more, and is informed by the newest innovations in the dance world. In a contemporary dance class, aspects of improvisation, floor work, and interpretive dance are often included amongst traditional technical practices.
Modern dance is a genre of dance that emerged in the late 19th & early 20th centuries as a rebellion against the strict rules of ballet. Valuing the techniques and traditions of Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, Isadora Duncan, Lester Horton and others, grounded movement, contraction and release, fall and recovery, use of breath, and emotional expression are explored.
Jazz dance is a style that blends elements of African and European dance traditions. From historical influences such as Bob Fosse, to contemporary jazz styles, our jazz dance classes are designed to bring out the students’ individual artistry and originality. In this class, technical elements such as isolation, syncopation & rhythm, leaps, turns, and lines will be explored in a fun and energetic way.
Hip-hop dance is a style that emerged in New York City in the 1970s along with other elements of hip-hop culture such as DJing, MCing, and graffiti. In our hip-hop classes, we explore core elements of hip-hop dance such as being grounded, bounce, rhythmic footwork, isolation, and more. Through the use of open-style choreography, we build combinations that develop rhythm and coordination, while encouraging individual style & having fun.
Musical Theatre dance is informed by a wide variety of techniques such as Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip-Hip, etc. In this class, dancers learn to act while dancing through choreography that has a strong connection to the music and lyrics. Students will also learn basics of the musical theatre world through the study of various musicals.
In this unique class, students will be encouraged to use their creativity and imagination as we tell stories through dance. They’ll be introduced to ballet terminology and musicality, developing their coordination, spacial awareness, storytelling, and cooperation skills (ages 3&4).
In this class, dancers explore the basic foundations of dance technique. Blending traditional dance exercises and fun movement activities, dancers are introduced to the proceedings of a ballet class while still emphasizing the pure joy of movement. Classes are designed to develop coordination, rhythm, and the ability to follow directions through games, props, and playful movement exercises designed to engage their creativity (ages 5&6).
